Maxville Heritage Interpretive Center (MHIC) is currently a 100% volunteer organization. We're developing volunteer opportunities to groups, families, corporations, organizations, and schools. This means that we are always in need of volunteers willing to get involved with all aspects of the organization; from managing an event to being on a committee and making a special event possible.
Why Volunteer with MHIC?
- Learn about Oregon, railroad logging, and African-American heritage.
- Help preserve a unique slice of history.
- Give back to the community and help others.
- Gain new skills or teach others.
- We strive to provide a meaningful and enjoyable experience for those who wish to share their time and skills with us.
- Media/press relations
- Program directors
How Do You Get Involved?
The great thing about volunteering is that you do it on your time and when you want. We do rely on you, however, and your dependability is key to the success of the projects we undertake.
We are also happy to work with college students looking to do special projects or internships.
If you have a few hours to spare each month and would like to become part of an organization where both your ideas and time are valued, we urge you to Become a Volunteer:
- Fill out a Volunteer Appplication.
- Conduct an interview with the Volunteer Coordinator.
- Attend orientation and begin training.
Volunteer Information and FAQs
How old do I have to be to volunteer?
To participate without a parent present, volunteers must be at least 14 years old.
Is there a time commitment for volunteering?
We encourage volunteers to make a minimum commitment of 2 hours per week for 6 months. Please note: our organization relies heavily on the work of dedicated volunteers. We do require a minimum time commitment and ask that volunteers only become involved in tasks/ projects they know they can see through to completion.
Do I have to have a set schedule?
We prefer that you come at the same time each week. It is helpful to our staff, for scheduling and management purposes, that you maintain a firm, set schedule. That being said, we can work with individuals on a case-by-case basis and may authorize exceptions in such circumstances as short school requirements or special projects.
How long does it take before I can start volunteering?
On average, if we are able to match you with an activity, it takes approximately 1-2 weeks to be placed and begin training.
