"Wallowa Grand Opening Brunch and Pie Auction"

"Wallowa Grand Opening Brunch and Pie Auction" On Sunday, April 3rd, the Maxville Heritage Interpretive Center hosted a Grand Opening of its new location in Wallowa, Oregon. MHIC was located in Enterprise for a year before the City of Wallowa, which is closer to the original Maxville town site than Enterprise, invited MHIC to hold their visitor center in the historic Wallowa City Hall Building. At the Grand Opening, MHIC held a well-attended pie auction, old-fashioned games, a raffle drawing, and a presentation by MHIC Director Gwen Trice.

The move to Wallowa has given the MHIC more space for its archive collection and the storefront, and is more able to engage with the City of Wallowa’s nationally registered historical buildings and residents who are Maxville decendents. Conversations with Senator Wyden’s representatives have been ongoing since he introduced the land use bill to return the Wallowa Compound for use as a cultural Heritage site in 2009. The new MHIC location is next door to the Nez Perce Interpretive Center at: E 2nd Street in Wallowa. Phone: 541-886- 3670.
