Youth-to-Elder Program

Students learn to record oral histories for Maxville project.jpg

The Maxville Heritage Interpretive Center Youth-to-Elder program trains local students to conduct video-recorded oral-history interviews to be preserved at the Maxville Visitor Center in Joseph.

Our inaugural cohort of eleven eighth-graders participated in the interview process to record the history of Maxville. The students interviewed nine residents at Wallowa Valley Senior Living in Enterprise, plus several staff members at the facility.

The interviews will be available at the Enterprise Library and featured in public presentations at Fishtrap, the senior living center, the Rotary Club of Wallowa County and the Maxville Mobile Museum at Eastern Oregon University.

This program is made possible with special thanks to the John and Diane Youell Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation, Eastern Oregon University, and the Fishtrap Lab.
